GENS SEASON ENDS

 

    The Welland Generals 2022 season came to an end on Sunday night losing to the Guelph Regals 10-4.

The Generals scored quickly taking an early 1-0 lead on Riley Benoit's (3) unassisted goal just 42 seconds into the game.  But the Regals would answer with 6 to take a 6-1 lead after one period of play. Other than their play in the first, the Gens played good lacrosse the rest of the way, losing the last two periods 4-3. Both teams scored twice in the second with Avery Steinbach-Parker (9) scoring the first goal with Colin Walters (14) and Raymond Hill (3) picking up the assist. Liam Haine (10) scored Welland second goal of the frame, Colin Walters (15) and Avery Steinbach-Parker (4) picked up the assists.

Although not in the picture, #77 Avery Steinbach-Parker's shot get through Guelph goalie Mateo Beaudin for Welland's 2nd goal.

   

The Regals out scored the Gens in the third 2-1 with Welland's goal coming off the stick of Avery Steinbach-Parker (10), his 10th goal in three games, Raymond Hill (4) and Colin Walters (16) assisted on the goal. For the Gens Avery Steinbach-Parker scored twice and added an assist, Colin Walters chipped in with three assists and Raymond Hill had two assists. Ethan Kelerher led Guelph with three goals and one assist. #29 Joe Joe Brant started for the Gens giving up 6 goals on 17 shots. Logan Powless finished the game for the Gens allowoing 4 goals on 35 shots. Guelph goalie Mateo Beaudin faced 33 Gens shots stopping 29. Guelph went 3 for 5 on the power play while the Generals went 0 for 1.

GENS LOSE HEARTBREAKER IN POINT EDWARD

 

Saturday night the Welland Generals travelled to Point Edward looking for their third win of the season against the Pacers and to pull even in the series as the Gens dropped a 17-15 game at home earlier in the schedule. It looked like the Gens were going to accomplish their feat as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first minute of the opening period. Colin Walters (7) scored 23 seconds in to give Welland a 1-0 lead, Riley Benoit (6) picked up the lone assist. Just 26 seconds later Avery Steinbach-Parker (5) upped Welland's lead to 2-0 with Aiden Arsenault (4) and Brain Nephew (9) assisting. The Pacers got one back to make it 2-1 but Riley Benoit (3) with an unassisted goal regained Welland's two goal lead at 3-1. Nathan Armstrong got the Pacers back to with in one 3-2 but again the Gens would answer with Brian Nephew (7) scoring, on the power play, assisted by Colin Walters (12) to make it a 4-2 Gens lead. The Pacers fought back to even the score 4-4. The Gens would score late to take a 5-4 lead after one period of play as Liam Haine (9) scored with Billy Dale (1) picking up the assist.

    Welland's Avery Stenbach-Parker (6) scored early in the second to put the Gens up 6-4, a shorthanded marker with the assist going to goaltender Logan Powless (1) .The pesky Pacers scored to make it 6-5 but Avery Steinbach-Parker (7) with his third of the game, on the power play gave Welland a two goal lead 7-5 after two periods of play, Colin Walters (13) picked up an assists on the goal.

    Point Edward got to within 1 at 7-6 early in the third. The Gens regained their two goal lead back 8-6 just 36 seconds later on Avery Steinbach-Parker's (8) fouth of the game, unassisted.  The game took a turn in the Pacers favour as they counted three straight goals to take their first lead of the game at 9-8. No it was time for the Gens to play catchup with Dawson Battersby (12) scoring an unassisted goal to even the game at 9-9. The Pacers would score on the power play to take the lead 10-9. Once again the Gens fought back to even the score at 10-10 on Colin Walter's (8) second of the game with Avery Steinbach-Parker (3) and Liam Haine (8) picking up assists. That didn't last long as the Pacers won the faceoff and scored to take an 11-10 lead just 7 seconds after the Gens tied it. The Gens had a glorious opportunity to even or even win  the contest as the Pacers took a a five minute major and then a minor infraction the give the Generals a two man advantage with two minutes to play, but could not get the equalizer as the Pacers endured with an 11-10 win.

    Hunter Berry started for the Gens but gave way to Logan Powless in the first period. The Gens were 2 for 7 on the power play with the Pacers going 3 for 9. For the second game in a row the Gens  Avery Steinbach-Parker put up a 4 goal game, he also picked up an assist.. Colin Walters finished the contest with 2 goals and 2 assists.

GENS DROP GAME TO REBELS

 

Last night the Welland Generals travelled to Six Nations to take on the Rebels. The Gens looking for their third win of the season fell behind 1-0 before Avery Steinbach-Parker (1), playing in his first game since returning to the Gens, tied the score at 1-1 with Liam Haine (7) picking up the lone assist. The Rebels would take a 4-1 lead before the gens cut the lead in half 4-2 on Avery Steinbach-Parker's(2) power play goal, Colin Walters (8) and Lucas Long (4) picked up assists. Each team would score in the last three minutes to make it a 5-3 Rebel lead after one period of play. Welland's third goal scored by Ethan Marsh (1), his first junior goal, on the power play with Colin Walters (9) and Avery Steinbach-Parker (1) assisting

   In the second the Rebels scored four in a row to take a 9-3 lead, but the Gens scored a couple quick ones to make it 9-5. Avery Steinbach-Parker (3) with the hatty, assisted by Colin Walters (10); then on the power play Liam Haine (8) assisted by Avery Steinbach-Parker (2) and Hayden Miller (16). The Rebels added one late to make it 10-5 after two.

    Colin Walters (6) made it 10-6 with Raymond (Kobe) Hill (2) assisting. The Rebels answered right back to make it 11-6 but Avery Steinbach-Parker (4) with his fourth of the game assisted by Colin Walters (11) made it 11-7. That was all the scoring the Gens could muster as the rebelas added a couple more to make the final 13-7 Six nations.

  Avery Steinbach Parker had a good night in his reti=run to the Generals scoring 4 times and assisting on 2 for a 6 point night. Colin Walters also had a nice game for the Gens scoring once and adding 4 assists for a 5 point game. Leading the Six Nations Rebels was Anahilis Doxtatar with 5 points on 3 goals and 2 assists. Welland Goaltender Joe Joe Brant faced 60 Rebel shots allowing 13 goals, while the Gens fired 50 shots at Immani Mitten of the Rebels beating him 7 time. Ethan Marsh scored his first Junior goal. The Gens went 3 for 6 on the powerplay while the Rebels went 1 for 7.

Welland travels to Point Edward tonight to take on the Pacers then finish up the season tomorrow, Sunday June 19 when thet play host to the Guelph Regals in a 7:00 PM game.

GENS DOWN BLUE DEVILS FOR SECOND WIN

 

 The Welland Generals picked up their second win of the season last night defeating the London Blue Devil 11-4. Just like last Sunday when the Gens travelled to London to take on the Blue Devils they fell behind 2-0, but a 5 minute major to the Blue Devils Nik Bullick allowed the Gens to get back into the game as Colin Walters (4) cut the London lead to 2-1 with his power play goal assisted by Dawson Battersby (19) and Nolan Fehr (12) and 32 seconds later another power play goal by Hayden Miller (9) even the score at 2-2, Nolan Fehr (13) picked up the lone assist.

Welland took the lead 3-2 on Colin Walters (5) scond of the game, Brian Nephew (6) picked up the assists. Welland took a two goal lead 4-2 on Brian Nephew's (6) goal with Nolan Fehr (14) picking up the lone assist. Kyle Pizzey brought the Blue Devils back to within one at 4-3. Welland got its two goal lead back 5-3 on Nolan Fehr's (12) goal assisted by Hayden Miller (13) but the Blue Devils got to with in one again on Robert Morgan's goal to make it 5-4. That was as close as the Blue Devils would get as Nolan Fehr's (13) power play goal. assisted by Hayden Miller (14) and Brian Nephew (7) made it 6-4 and before the period ended Hayden Miller's (10) power play goal made it 7-4 with Brian Nephew (8) and Colin Walters (6) picking up the assists.

The third period was all Welland as the Gens shut down the Blue Devils outscoring them 4-0. Dawson Battersby (10) scored Welland's 8th goal, a shorthanded marker on a beauty pass down floor by Aiden Arsenault (3). Dawson Battersby (11) up the Gens lead to 9-4 with assists going to Lucas Long (3) and Hayden Miller (15). Welland's 10th goal came off the stick of Liam Haine (7) with Kobe Hill (1) and Colin Walters (7) credited with the assists. The Gens final goal scored by Billy Dale (3) on a nice pass from Dawson Battersby (20) to make the final 11-4 Welland.

Welland goaltender Logan Powless picked up the win for the Generals, his first carrer Junior B win. Welland outshot  out shot London 62 to 53. The Gens went 4 for 7 on the power play and also scored a shorthanded goal. The Blue Devils went 2 for 5 on the power play. The fans were treated to a littile minor action in between the 1st and 2nd period as the Pelham Novice Raiders entertained them.

 

Hayden Miller and Nolan Fehr both picked up 5 points on 2 goals and 3 assists each. Dawson Battersby and Colin Walters both had 2 goals and 2 assists while Brian Nephew chipped in with a goal and 3 assists. Riley Benoit and Aiden Arsenault were strong on defense for the Gens. The Gens lost the services of #16 Ethan Marsh in the first with an upper body injury.

The Gens finish their season next weekend end as they travel to Six Nations on Friday night to take on the Rebels at 8:00 PM, then they hope on the bus on Saturday morning heading to Point Edward to play the Pacers before heading home for their final game of the season to battle the Gueph Regals at the Welland arena in a 7:00 PM contest.

GENS TRADE FEHR TO HAMILTON

 

After Sunday nights win over the London Blue Devils the Welland Generals trade Nolan Fehr to the Hamilton Bengals. Fehr, came over to the Gens in a trade with the St Catharines Athletic B's that saw Justin Porga and Max Brook go to the Athletics. Nolan Played 10 games with the Generals scoring 13 goals and adding 14 assists for 27 points.  #15 Nolan Fehr.

SHORT STAFFED GENS LOSE IN WINDSOR

 

On Saturday the Welland Generals travelled to Windsor to take on the Windsor Clippers. The Gens made the trip with only 15 runners and the Clippers took a 6-1 lead after one period of play. Brian Nephew (5) scored Welland goal with  Dawson Battersby (17) picking up the lone assist. Welland fell behind 9-3 after the second period with Lucas Long (4) scoring Wellands second goal assisted by Colin Walters (5) and Manny Bomberry (2). Welland's third goal scored by Nolan Fehr (11) with Dawson Battersby (18) and netminder Hunter Berry (1) Picking up assists. Hunter Berry started in goal for the Gens, despite allowing 10 goals played a strong game for the Gens. Joe Joe Brant replaced Berry midway through the third allowing 3 goals.  Gens were outshot 69 - 31.

Welland went 0 for 2 with the man advantage while the Clipper went 1 for 3

GENS FAULTER IN THIRD LOSE 12-4 TO A's

 

The Welland Generals played a strong two period against the surging St Catharine Jr B Athletics Thursday night only to have a let down in the third as the A's out scoresd the Gens 6-1 to take a 12-4 win. 

Welland drew first blood in the game as Lucas Long (3) fired a shot over the should of A's goaltender Connor Waller to give the Gens a 1-0 lead with Riley Benoit(4) and Hayden Longboat (4) picking up the assists. Colin Walters (3) made it 2-0 Welland with the assists going to Brian Nephew (4) and Nolan Fehr (11), The Athletics scored two goals late in the first period to even the contest at 2-2 after one period of play.

   Two early goals in the first part of the second put the A's up 4-2. The Gens got one back to make it 4-3 on Aiden Arsenault's (2) goal, Riley Benoit (5) adn Brian Nephew (50 picked up the assists. The Gens ran into some penalty problems after their third goal and couldn't muster much offense as the A's added two more to make it 6-3 St Catharines after two.

    The A's went on a four goal run to make it 10-3 Athletics. Nolan Fehr (10) scored to make it 10-4 with Aiden Arsenault (2) and Dawson Battersby (16) picking up assists. Athletics added a couple more to make the final 12-4 in favour of the St Catharine's Athletics.

     Goaltender Joe Joe Brant played a strong game for the Gens in defeat as he allowed 10 goals on 53 shots. Backup Logan Powless got into the game for the last 15 minutes allowing 2 goals on 15 shots. Connor Waller picked up the win for the A's allowing 4 goals on 33 Welland shots.

      Welland went 2 for 3 on the power play while the Athletics went 3 for 11. The athletics out shot the Gens in the game 68 - 33.

Welland travels to Winsor on Saturday night to faceoff against the Clipper in a 7:00 PM tilt returning home on Sunday Night June 13 when they play host to the London Blue Devils, game time in 7:00 PM at the Welland Main Arena.

JOE JOE BRANT & NOLAN FEHR LEAD GENS PAST BLUE DEVILS FOR FIRST WIN

 

Welland General's goaltender Joe Joe Brant picked up his first Jr B win  stopping 47 of the 54 shots he faced on Sunday night in London and Nolan Fehr scored twice including the game winner as the Gens came from behind to defeat the London Blue Devils by a score of 8-7. London took a 2-0 lead in the first but Liam Haine (5) scored to make it 2-1 London, Colin Walters (1) and Nolan Fehr (8) picked up the assists. The Blue Devils added another to take a 3-1 lead after one period of play.

      London jumped out to a three goal lead 4-1 early in the second before the Gens got on track. Nolan Fehr (8) made it 4-2 London with Riley Beniot (3) and Brian Nephew (3) picking up assists. The Gens got to with in one on Raymond (Kobe) Hill's (1) first goal as a Gen, the lone assist going to Hayden Miller (11). Less than a minute later Brian Nephew (3) even the contest at 4-4 with Hayden Longboat (3) and Ethan Marsh (4) assisting. Welland took their first lead of the game at 5-4 on Brian Nephew's (4) second goal, Nolan Fehr (9) and Hayden Miller (12) assisting on the goal. The Generals took a two goal lead 6-4 on Liam Haine's (6) second of the game with assists going to Dawson Battersby (13) and Jakob Bomberry (2). The Blue Devils fought back with two quick goals to even the score at 6-6.  Less than a minute after the Blue Devils tied the game Colin Walters (2) connected for the Gens to regain the lead 7-6, Dawson Battersby (14) and Nolan Fehr (10) picked up assists. Nolan Fehr (9) scored his second of the game to put Welland up by two 8-6, Dawson Battersby (15) picked up the lone assist. London scored late to make it 8-7 Welland after the second period.

    Neither team was able to score in the third as the Gens hung on for an 8-7 win, their first since their last game of the season in 2019. The game was a mild affair with Welland picking up 4 minutes in penalties to London 10, neither team was able to score on the power play.

 

Welland next game is Thursday June 9 when they play host to their 406 rivals, the St Catharine's Junior B A's. Game time is 7:30 PM

ELORA JUST TO MUCH FOR GENS

 

Saturday night the Elora Mohawks scored almost at will as they totally dominated the Welland Generals scoring 10 times in the first and third periods and added 8 in the second to the Gens two as they routed the Gens 28-2. The high point of the game for the Gens was AP call up from the Fort Erie Intermediate Hawks, Sebastien Rees (1) scoring his first Jr B goal with Aiden Arsenault (1) picking up the assist. Welland's second goal was scored by Dawson Battersby (9). 

Welland next game is Sunday June 5 when they travel to London to take on the London Blue Devils. Both teams are looking for thier first wins of the season.

BIG THIRD PROPELS CLIPPERS PAST GENS

 

   Three shorthanded goals and a power play marker in the third helped propel the Windsor Clippers down the Welland Generals by a 11-5 score.

    Welland opened the scoring in the game as Max McDona;d (2) scored on the power play to give the Gens a 1-0 lead with Dawson Battersby (11) and Hayden Miller (9) picking up assists. A shorthanded goal from Clippers  Max Frattaroli even the score 1-1. Welland regained the lead on a power play goal by Hayden Miller (8),  Nolan Fehr (7) and Colin Walters(2) picked up the assists. But just 26 second later Xander Derkatz even the score as the period ended 2-2.

  A short handed marker by new comer Aiden Arsenault (1) gave the Gens a 3-2 lead early in the second, it was Aiden's first career Junior goal. The Clippers Zane Dalpe scored to tie the score once again at 3-3. The Gens would take the lead for the fourth time midway through the second on Max McDonald's (3) goal, Dawson Battersby (12) picked up the lone assist. The Clipper would tie the score 4-4 and would take a 5-4 lead on Xander Derkatz power play marker before the second period ended.  

     After playing their best two periods of the year, the Gens lapsed a bit in the third allowing the Clippers to score 6 straight goals, including 3 shorthanded and 1 powerplay marker to take an 11-4 lead. Nolan Fehr (7) added a power play goal late in the third to make the final 11-5 in favour of the Windsor Clippers, Coilin Walters (3) and Hayden Miller (10) picked up assists on Fehr's goal.

Joe Joe Brant started for the Gens making 28 saves on 36 shots before giving way to Hunter Berry midway through the third. Griffin Salaris picke up the win for Windsor allowing 5 goals on 44 shots. Hayden Miller picked up a goal and added 2 assists, Max McDonald added apair of goals for the Gens. Xander Derkatz with 5 goals and 2 assists led the Clippers. The Gens went 3 for 11 on the power play and added a shorthanded marker while the Clippers went 2-6 but added 4 shorthanded goals.

GENS LOSE IN BENGAL TOWN

 

Thursday night the Welland Generals travelled to Hamilton to take on the Bengals. Gens matched the Bengals shot for shot during the game but the Bengals shooters were alittle more on target than the Gens. The Bengals opened up a 4-0 lead in the first before the Gens got on the board when Nolan Fehr (5) scored to make it a 4-1 Bengal lead after one period of play. Brian Nephew assited on Fehr's goal.

      Second period woes continue to haunt the Gens as the Bengals scored 8 time to the Gens 2 to take a 12-3 lead after two periods. Dawson Battersby (8) assisted by Landon Jimerson scored the Gens first of the second period and Nolan Fehr (6) scored  with Brian Nephew picking up the assist on the Gens second goal of the middle frame.

     The Gens scored the first three goals of the third to make it 12-6, but the Bengals roared back with the final three goals of the game to make the final 15-6 Bengals. New comer to the Gens roster Brian Nephew (1) scored his first goal as a General with Jakob Bomberry (1) picking up the lone assist. Colin Walters (1) followed with his first with the assist going to Nolan Fehr(6). Brian Nephew (1) scored the final Gens goal assisted by Max McDonald (2).

     Gens goaltender Joe Joe Brant stopped 51 of the 66 shots he faced in the game while Cole Gervais faced 62 Gens shots stopping all but 6. Winston Bashford led the Bengals offense with 3 goals. New comer Brian Nephew scored twice and added 2 assist for 4 pointa while Nolan Fehr added three points on 2 goals and 1 assist. Each team took 3 penalties in the game.

 

Welland plays host to the Windsor Clipper on Sunday after noon beginning at 2:00 PM

GENS LOSE A HEARTBREAKER

 

The Welland Generals suffered a heartbreaking 17- 15 lose to the Point Edward Pacers Sunday night at the Welland Arena. Spotting the Pacers an early 4-0 lead, the Gens fought back and led by 2 goals at one point in the third only to give up 3 shorthanded goals and a power play goals in the last 8 minutes of the game.

   In the first the Pacers jumped into an early 4-0  but the Gens Landen Jimerson(1) got the Gens on the board with Ethan Marsh (1) and goaltender Joe Joe Brant (1) who replaced starter Hunter Berry midway through the first to make it 4-1. Gens Thad Buttigieg (2) made it 4-2 with Lucas Long (1) picking up the lone assist. Gens Captain Hayden Miller (4) got the Wellanders to within one at 4-3, assists going to Dawson Battersby (7) and Nolan Fehr (2). Point Edward would score a couple of their own to make it 6-3, but two goals in nine seconds by the Gens made it a 6-5 Pacer lead after one period of play. Welland's fouth goal scored by Liam Haine (3) assisted by Nolan Fehr (3) and Lucas Long (2). Teegan Lines (1) with his first Junior goal, unassisted scored the fifth Gens goal.

    Nolan Fehr's (3) power play goal evened the contest at 6-6, Dawson Battersby (8) and Joe Joe Brant (2) picked up the assists. The Pacers scored a power play goal of their own to regain the lead at 7-6. Dawson Battersby (5) got the Gens back on even terms with assists going to Thad Buttigieg (1) and Hayden Miller (5). Welland took their first lead of the 8-7 game when Teegan Lines (2) scored, assisted by Nolan Fehr (4). The lead was short lived as the Pacers evened the score at 8-8 less than a minute later. Pacers went ahead 9-8 but once again the Gens evened the game 9-9 on Dawson Battersby's (6) goal with Hayden Miller (6) picking up the lone assist. Liam Haine (4) scored to give the Gens a one goal lead 10-9 with Hayden Miller (7) and Max McDonald picking up assists. But once again the Pacers replied to even it up at 10-10.  Hayden Miller (5) assisted by Liam Haine (5) and Nolan Fehr (5) put he Gens back on top 11-10 and then Dawson Battersby (7) with his third of the game gave Welland a two goal lead 12-10, Hayden Miller (8) picked up an assist on the goal. But with 33 seconds to go in the period the Pacers notched a power play goal to make it a 12-11 Welland lead after two periods of play.

     Two goals in the first couple minutes of the third gave the visiting Pacers a 13-12 lead. The Gens regained the lead as Hayden Miller (6) scored an unassisted goal, his third of the game to even the count at 13-13 and then Miller (7) scored again to give Welland another lead 14-13, Dawson Battersby (9) and Max McDonald (2) assisting on the goal. Disaster struck the Gens as they were enjoying a power play the Pacers erupted for three short handed goals on the the same Gens power play to make it 16-14 Point Edward. The Gens finally scored on the same power play to make it 16-15, Nolan Fehr (4) scoring the Welland goal with Dawson Battersby (1) and Liam Haine (6) assisting. Then with less than 2 minutes to gaol as questionable call by the ref gave put the Pacers on the power play and they would make good with a goal to make the fianl 17-15 in favour of the Point Edward Pacers.

     The Generals battled hard, but their first win of the season was denied by the pesky Pacers. Specialty teams were a big factor in the game as the Gens went 6 for 10 on the power play but also yielded 3 short handed goals to the Pacers. The Pacers went 6 for 12 scoring the 3 shorty's also. Brett Vince was the big shooter for the Pacers with 10 points on 3 goals and 7 assists. For the Gens Hayden Miller scored 4 times and assisted on 4 while Dawson Battersby also assisted on 4 gaols while picking up 3 goals himself. Nolan Fehr chipped in with 2 goals and 4 assists for a 6 point night.

 

The Gens travel to Bengal territory on Thursday night to take on the Hamilton squad in an 8:00 PM start.

GENS LOSE ON THE ROAD IN OWEN SOUND

 

A shorthanded Gens Team travelled to Owen Sound to take on the Northstars on Saturday evening.  Due to a bus driver transfer in Mississauga, the Gens arrived in Owen Sound late which caused the game to be moved to 7:15 instead of 7:00 to give the Gens a proper warmup. Dawson Battersby (4) got the ball rolling for the Gens giving them a 1-0 lead with Coby Bomberry(1) picking up an assist. The Northstars tallied a couple to give Owen Sound a 2-1 lead, but the Gens evened the score at 2-2 on Riley Benoit's(1) unassisted goal. The Northstars added a couple more to take a 4-2 lead after one period of play.

  The second period was all Owen Sound as they scored 8 times to the Gens 0 to take a 12-2 lead after two periods.

  Welland played their best period of the year in the third as they out scored Owen Sound 4-2 to make the final 14-6 in Owen Sounds favour. Jakob Bomberry (2) assisted by Riley Benoit (1) and Dawson Battersby (60; Hayden Miller (3) assisted bt Coby Bomberry (2); Liame Haine (2) assisted by Teegan Lines (1) and Landen Jimerson(1), and Welland's final goal of the third scored by Riley Benoit (2) with Manny Bomberry (1) and Max McDonald picking up the assists.

GENS CAN'T GET UNTRACKED IN LOSS TO A'S

 

  On Thursday night the Welland Gens made the trip down Merrittville HWY to the new Canada Games Centre, to take on the St Catharines Athletic B's. This is the first meeting between the rivals in a couple years. A slow start by the Gens got them behind early as the A's took a 4-0 lead before Nolan Fehr (2) got the Gens on the board with a breakaway unassisted goal to make it 4-1 A's after one period. 

     The A's took command of the game in the second outscoring the Gens 7-1 to take an 11-2 lead after two periods. Max McDonald (1) with his first since joinging the Gens with Nolan Fehr (1) picking up the lone assist.

    In the third the Gens worked hard allowing the A's only two goals but could not get any offense of their own going and were out scored 2-0 in the period, and dropping the game 13-2.

 

The Gens travel to Owen SOund on Saturday to take on the Owen Sound Northmen and on Sunday they play host to the Point Edward Pacers . Game time is 7:00 PM

REBELS TO MUCH FOR GENS

 On Sunday night the Six Nation Rebels were in town to take on the hometown Welland Generals. The Rebels struck first just 18 seconds into the game, but the Gens Liam Haine (1) scored to even the score at 1-1, new comer Colin Walters (1) picked up an assist, his first as a General after coming over from the St Catharine Jr B A's.  Six Nations jumped ahead 2-1, but once again the Gens would tie the score, Nolan Fehr (1) whom the Gens just picked up from a trade with the St Catharine's Jr B A's scored his first as a Gen, Liam Haine (4) and Dylan Dekoe (4) picked up the assists. That was as close as the Gens would get as the Rebels added 3 goals to take a 5-2 lead after the first. The last two period were domintaed by the Rebels as they would out score the Gens, 6-0 in the second and 7-0 in the third to take the game 18-2. Gens goaltender Joe Joe Brant playing his first game since 2019 had a solid outing making 47 saves in the loss. Mani Mitten picked up the win for the Rebels. Anahilis Doxtater with 2 goals and 6 assists led the Rebels attack.

On Saturday May 21 they travel to Owen Sound to take on the Owen Sound Northstars in a 7:00 PM start, before heading back home to the confines of the Welland Arena to play host to the Point Edward Pacers on Sunday May 22, game time is 7:00 PM

GENS DROP A PAIR LAST WEEKEND

 

On Friday night the Gens ran into a tough Guelph Team as they dropped the first of the weekend 18-7 to the Regals, Guelph jumed into a 5-2 lead after the first period with Dawson Battersby (2,) from Ethan Welling (10). Battersby (3)added his second of the period with Justin Porga (5) and Max Brook (2) picking up the assists. Guelph continued to add to their lead, outscoring the Gens 5-1 in the second to take a 10-3 lead after two periods of play. Blake Colonell (5) scored for the Gens, Jakob Bomberry (1) and Ethan Wellings (11) assisted on the lone Gens goal in the period. The Regals outscored the Gens again in the third 8-4  to take the game 18-7, In the third the Gens did put a string of three staright goals. Ethan Wellings (6) assisted by Justin Porga (6) and Liam Haine (2), then Jakob Bomberry (1) with his first assisted by Liam Haine (3) and Ethan Wellings (12) then Billy Dale (2) unassisted. Welland's 4th goal of the period was scored by Blake Colonell 2 (6) with assists going to Justin Porga (7) and Ethan Wellings (13). Ethan Wellings picked up 5 points for the Gens on 1 goal and 4 assists. The Regals were led by Marcus Keleher with 3 goals and 6 assists.

On Sunday night the short staffed  Gens made the trip to Wallaceburg for a return match but came up short in a 16-5 loss. The Gens never got started as the Red Devils took a 7-1 lead after the first period with the lone Welland goal coming off the stick of Justin Porga (7), Haden Miller (3) and Ethan Wellings (14)  assisting. Wallaceburg made it 13-4 after two periods. Scoring for the Gens in the second were Ethan Wellings (7) assisted by Patrick Thompson (1); Thad Buttigieg (1) his first Jr goal assisted by Hayden Miller (4) and Ethan Wellings (15); Welland's third in the period scored by Justin Porga 2 (8), Patrick Thompson (2) picked up the lone assist.  Justin Porga 3 (9) picked up his third of the game, Welland's only goal of the thirds, Ethan Wellings (16) picked up the assist. The Red Devils added three to make the final 16-5. The Red Devils out shot the Gens 69-49 with Hunter Berry making 53 saves. Ethan Wellings 1 goal, 3 assists and Justin Porga 3 goals led the Gens attack. Tanner Cole led the Red Devils with 7 goals and 4 assists.

BENGALS TAME GENS

The Hamilton Bengals jumped into an early 2-0 lead with 2 goals 23 seconds apart, the first by Tyson Allison and the second from  Josh Lucas. The Gens fought back to even the score at two with two fast ones of their own with Hayden Miller (2) scoring from Ethan Wellings (6), then Wellings (5) 39 seconds later from Hayden Miller (1) and Dawson Battersby (5). Hamilton then went on a 5 goal run to make it 7-2 before the Gens got back on the board with Lucas Long (1) intercepting a Hamilton pass to race down the floor to score his first ever Jr B goal. Hamilton added another to lead 8-3 after one period of play.

     The second period was all Hamilton as they outscored the Generals 5-1 to take a 13-4 lead after two periods. Dawson Battersby (1) with his first career Jr B goal from Hayden Miller (2) scored welland's only goal of the period.

    The third was a much better period for the Gens as they out scored the Bengals 4 -3, but the Bengals took the game 16-8. Scoring for the Gens in the third were Blake Colonell (3) assisted by Ethan Wellings (7) and Justin Porga (4); Justin Porga (6) from Max Brook (1) and Ethan Wellings (8); Blake Colonell (4), on the power play from Ethan Wellings (9) and Justin Porga (5) and rounding out the scoring for the Gens is Lucas Long (2) assisted by Connor Johns (1). Welland went 2 for 6 on the power play while the Bengals were 1 for 4.  Gens goalie Hunter Berry faced a barrage of Bengal shots, 70 in total in allowing 16 goals. Hamilton goalie Jaxon Longboat had an easier night stopping 27 of the 35 shots he faced. Ethan Wellings led the welland offense with 1 goal and 4 assists. Colin Matthews led all Bengals with 3 goals and 4 assist

GENS FALL SHORT

        

   The Welland Generals came up a bit short in their contest against the Owen Sound Northstars Sunday afternoon at the King Street Ice Palace. Owen Sound jumped out front 2-0  on goals by Curtis Arnold and Tyson Morrison. Welland cut the lead in half on a goal by Justin Porga (2) midway through the first frame with Liam Haine picking up the lone assist. The Northstars added a couple more before the period ended to take a 4-1 lead after one period of play, Brayden Krueger and Luke Grimoldby scoring the goals for the Northstars, Owen Sound outshot Welland 19-8 in the period.

Owen Sound jumped into a 6-2 lead on two goals from Luke Grimoldby and it looked like the Gens were in for a tough night, but the Gens fought back with four straight goals to make it a one goal game at 7-6 for the Northstars.  Ethan Wellings (2) got the Gens rolling making it 7-3 with Hayden Longboat(1)assisting. Fifteen seconds later Wellings (3) added another to make it 7-4, Dawson Battersby (4) and Justin Porga (2) picked up assists on the goal. Justin Porga (3) scored to make it 7-5 with the assist going to Hayden Longboat(2). Porga (4)would score his third of the game with 25 seconds to go in the second to make it a 7-6 Owen Sound lead after two periods of play, Ethan Wellings (4) picked up the lone assist. The Northstars out shooting the Gens 18-14 in the second.

A costly penalty at the end of the second period by the Generals led to an early Owen Sound power play goal as Curtis Arnold scored just 32 seconds into the third to give the Northstars a two goal lead 8-6. Justin Porga (5) with his fourth of the game, a power play goal, got the Gens back to within one 7-6, Dylan Dekoe (3) and Ethan Wellings (5) get the assists on the goal. A couple goals by Carter Moran, one on the power play put the Northstars back up by three 9-6. The Gens got one back as the Gens caught the Northstars on a line change with Ethan Wellings (4) scoring his third of the game on a long pass from Justin Porga (3) to make it a 9-7 game, but the Northstars would capitalize on the same penalty 39 seconds later with Raiden Medwedyk scoring to regain their three goal lead. Carter Moran’s third goal of the game scored for the Northstars making the final 11-7 in favour of the Owen Sound. Owen Sound outshot the Gens 23-13 in the period and 60-35 overall. Owen Sound went 4 for 10 on the power play while the Gens went 1 for 7 and added a short handed goal. Hunter Berry played a solid game in goal for the Gens in taking the loss. Samuel Forbes picked up the win for the Northstars.

GENS LOSE TOUGH 11-6 GAME TO RED DEVILS

 

The Welland Generals played a gutsy game yesterday but came up a bit short in their 11-7 lose to the Wallaceburg Red Devils. It was a much better game for the Gens compared to their season opener vs Elora, as the offense got untracked and the defense also tightened their game up.

The Red Devils took an early 3-0 lead less than two minutes into the game and led 4-0 before the Gens got on the score board as Littleton, Colorado native Blake Colonell (1) scored his first every box goals to make it 4-1 with rookie Dawson Battersby (1)picking up the lone assist. Forty tree seconds later, Gens Captain Hayden Miller (1) made it a 4-2 game with Ethan Wellings (1)and Dawson Battersby (2) picking up assists.. A couple mistakes in the last half of the period allowed the red Devils to add three goals to lead 7-2 after one period of play.

In the second, the Gens out played and out scored the Red Devils 2-1 but still trailed after two periods 8-4. Scoring the Gens third of the night was Blake Colonell (2) assisted by Dawson Battersby (3), his third assist of the game. Welland’s fourth goal, a power play goal,scored by Ethan Wellings (1) with Justin Porga (1) and Dylan Dekoe (1) assisting.

The Gens made it an 8-5 game on a power play goal off the stick of Juston Porga’s (1) his first of the season, assisted by Dylan Dekoe (2) and Ethan Wellings (2). The Red Devils would return the favour with a goal of their own to make it a 9-5 Wallaceburg lead. Welland kept pressing and were rewarded with a goal from Dylan Dekoe (1) to get within three 9-6, Ethan Wellings (3) picked up the only assist on the goal. But the red Devils tallied with 2 in the final frive minutes to out score the Gens 3-2 in the third making the final 11-6 infavour of the Wallaceburg red Devils.

Hagwas Hill started for the Gens and took the loss, with Hunter Berry coming into the game in the first period. Berry made 29 saves of the 37 shots he faced.

Michael Hominuck Jr. was on hand to do the season opener faceoff on Saturday. Hominuck is a Minto Cup Champion with the St Catharine's Athletics in 2001. He is a 3 time Baggataway Cup Champion with the Brock Badgers 2003, 04, 05 and a 3time Mann Cup Champion with the Brampton Excelsiors in 2008, 2009, 2011. Drafter by the Philadelphia Wings of the NLL in 2004, Mike played 11 season with Philadelphia, Portland Lumberjax, Edmonton Rush, Minnesota Swarm, Toronto Rock and the Buffalo Bandits. He was chosen Welland' Athlete of the year in 2009 winning the H.L. CUdney Trophy and was selected to the Welland Sports Wall of Fame in 2017

GENS HOST RED DEVILS IN HOME OPENER  

The Welland Generals will play host to the Wallaceburg Red Devils in an afternoon tilt at the King Street Ice Palace on Saturday April 30, game time 4:00 PM.  Coming of a big loss at the hands of the Elora Mohawks last Sunday, the Gens are looking to redeem themselves in tomorrows game. The last time the Generals hosted the Wallaceburg Red Devils was June of 2019, with the Gens upsetting the Red Devils 11-7. The Gens got a shot in the arm on Thursday night as Dylan Dekoe returns to the lineup. As a rookie in 2019 Dekoe scored 3 goals and added 15 assists in 15 games with the Gens. The Gens are also looking to Justin Porgan and Ethan Wellings to continue where they left off before the pandemic in 2022. Porga finished the 2019 season with 28 goals and 44 assists for 72 points and Welling amassed 20 goals and 22 assists for 42 points.

GENS NO MATCH FOR MOHAWKS 

 

The Elora Mohawks showed why they were the Canadian Jr B Champs pre pandemic as they totally out matched the visiting Generals from the start. Elora built up a 6-1 lead after the first and increased their lead to 18-1 after two and adding 3 more in the third for a 21-1 win. Welland recieved 83 minutes of the 116 minutes called by the referees in the game. Although the inexperienced Gens were beated on the score board the group never gave up and battled to the end. Elora went 9 for 16 on the power play while the Gens went 0 for 2.

Billy Dale scored the lone goal for the Gens. Nick Aitchison led the Elora attack with 4 goals and 2 assist.

The Gens are back on the floor to regroup on Tuesday night with an 8:00 PM practice in the Youth Arena.

Next game for the Gens will be their Home Opener on Saturday April 30th, 2022 at the Welland Main Arena, 501 King Street vs the Wallaceburg Red Devils in a 4:00 PM start.
